To grow our team in Detroit, we are seeking an HR/EHS Assistant responsible for supporting the Head of Human Resources with administrative and operational support. This position assists with employee onboarding, recordkeeping, training coordination, safety program administration, regulatory compliance, and employee engagement initiatives. This role serves as a key point of contact for employees and supports the organization’s commitment to maintain a safe, compliant, and productive workplace. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working effectively in both an office setting and on the manufacturing floor.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with recruitment activities including posting job openings, scheduling interviews, and coordinating candidate communications.
  • Support new hire onboarding, orientation, and employee documentation processes.
  • Maintain employee personnel files and HR records in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Process employment-related paperwork, including status changes, terminations, and benefits enrollments.
  • Assist with attendance tracking, timekeeping, and employee data management.
  • Coordinate employee training programs and maintain training records.
  • Respond to routine employee questions regarding company policies, benefits, and HR procedures.
  • Assist with employee engagement activities, recognition programs, and company events.
  • Prepare HR reports and maintain departmental records and metrics.
  • Maintain EHS records, training documentation, safety inspection reports, and regulatory compliance files.
  • Assist with conducting workplace safety inspections and audits throughout the facility.
  • Support incident, injury, and near-miss reporting processes.
  • Assist in investigating workplace incidents and documenting corrective actions.
  • Assist in tracking corrective actions resulting from audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Coordinate and track required safety training programs.
  • Assist with PPE distribution and inventory.
  • Support emergency preparedness initiatives, including evacuation drills and safety meetings.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and hazardous chemical documentation.
  • Monitor and maintain bulletin boards, signage, and communication materials.
  • Ensure HR and EHS documentation is complete, organized, and audit ready at all times.
  • Assist with OSHA, environmental, and compliance reporting requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee and company information.
  • Assist with policy updates, procedure maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform general administrative duties including filing, data entry, scheduling, and report preparation.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

 
Education and Experience:
  • Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Occupational Safety or a related field required.
  • 1 – 3 years of HR or Safety administrative support experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with HRIS systems (Paycor preferred) and EHS software.
  • Experience in a Tier 1 automotive supplier environment is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally and discreetly.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety programs.
  • Familiarity with ISO, IATF, VDA or other automotive quality systems.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach.
